This roof had 30 years on it. That's a long run, but it was done. The old asphalt shingles were curling, worn down to the mat in spots, and no longer doing what a roof is supposed to do - keep everything underneath it dry and protected. At that point, repairs are just throwing money at a problem that's already past the finish line.
So we stripped it all the way down. Every shingle came off, the decking got inspected, and where it needed new plywood, we put it in. That's the part most homeowners never see - what's underneath matters just as much as what goes on top. Skipping that step is how you end up with a brand new roof that still leaks.
Once the deck was solid, we laid GAF Deck-Armor underlayment across the entire surface before a single shingle went down. That membrane acts as a secondary barrier against moisture - so even if water ever finds its way under a shingle, it's got another line of defense before it can cause any real damage. It's one of those details that separates a proper residential roofing installation from a cut-rate job.
Then came the new asphalt shingles. This home has a complex roofline - multiple hips, a turret section, multiple ridgelines meeting at different angles. Getting the layout right on a roof like this takes real skill. Sloppy cuts or rushed coursework show up fast on a job this intricate. Our crew took their time and it shows in the finished product.
A roof this size, on a home this complex, done right - that's what gives a homeowner actual peace of mind. Not just for the next storm, but for the next few decades.
